Sick of all those additives in store-bought flatbreads? Tired of the same old options at the grocery store? Well, look no further! This simple and delicious flatbread recipe adapted from the RecipeTinEats website is here to save the day. With only 5 ingredients, most of which you probably already have at home, you can whip up a batch of these tasty flatbreads in no time.

This recipe uses our golden ratio of replacing up to 1/4 of any plain flour recipe with Pepo's flour. Our seed or nut flours not only create an appealing colour in these flatbreads but also impart a delicious flavour and boost the nutritional value. 

Easy Peasy Recipe

Guess what? This no yeast recipe doesn't require heaps of kneading or excessive resting time required! Simply mix together the ingredients, roll out the dough, rest for 30mins then cook the flatbreads in a hot pan. In no time, you'll have a stack of warm, homemade flatbreads ready to be enjoyed with your favorite toppings or fillings. Once you try these, you'll never want to go back to store-bought flatbreads again!

You'll need:

  • 1.5 cups of plain (keep 1/4 cup extra for dusting & adjusting dough)
  • 0.5 cup of Pepo pumpkin seed flour or sunflower flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 tbsp sunflower oil 
  • 3/4 cup milk of choice

Method:

  1. Sieve all dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix to thoroughly incorporate.
  2. Add wet ingredients and mix thoroughly until combined well
  3. Tip dough out onto a clean and lightly floured surface and work dough in a needing motion, incorporating a little more flour until dough is pliable and no longer super sticky
  4. Wrap in clingfilm and place in the fridge for 30 mins to rest (or keep in fridge for up to 3 days until ready to use)
  5. Remove from fridge onto a lightly floured surface, cut into 6 equal portions and roll each out into rounds approximately 2mm thick
  6. Heat a large non stick pan or cast iron skillet over medium heat, fry flatbreads until bubbling and golden brown then flip and repeat with remaining flatbreads
  7. Wrap in tea towel to keep warm until finished frying (like tortillas)
